chapter 1
In The Beginning
Well Mark wrote a song called "Hunters Hell". He recorded it and tried to give it to Rod Sones of the Wreckers to play. But Rod said "No, no, no, no, you should sing it.", "Nay" said Mark, "I have no band, you do it.", "No, no, I will put a band together for you." And he did.
This was in 1994. So Mark sang and played guitar, mandolin and some keyboards, Rod played guitar and did some vocals, Les Breckon played melodeon, accordion and keyboards, Rob (Moggy) Marshall played bass and Danny Pearson played drums.
But there was no name.
Whilst poking through a copy of the Oxford Music Dictionary Mark found an entry for a Maggot. A Maggot is an 18th century English dance written for members of the aristocracy i.e. "Lady Winwoods Maggot.", "That's perfect," said Mark, "no-one will remember that.".
And so it began.
