chapter 5
More people, more studio time, more stuff!!!
1999 trundles on... Tony has formed his own band, so the time has come to start looking for another bass player. After all he did say, two years ago, that he was only temporary. Well on a slack day Mark was reading the Free Ads again, (you would think he would try something a little more testing wouldn't you ?) when lo and behold, "bass player looking for a country rock band" leaps from the page. Could they get away with claiming to be a country rock band? Why not? Phone calls were duly made, meetings arranged and Tim Ablitt was promptly piped aboard.
Rehearsals began and a new set worked up. Time to record yet again. Back to Sound on Sound to record 'GOSH'. The process took about a week on and off. But not content with one CD in 2000 Maggot recorded their set at Brockstock on 5th August and are currently mixing this, hopefully for release sometime in September. Also Mark and Tony are digitally re-mastering 'Moose' and 'Sweetheart' for release on one CD later in the year under the title 'Bowling Over The Bovine'. So that's it.
...But hang on a minute why re-master? Surely we can do the songs better now, we are older, wiser, slightly more unhinged. We can even add a couple of new songs and make a nice shiny job of it.
"MIKE! Please can we come back and use the studio again?" And so it begins again. Journeys backwards and forwards to Sound on Sound, bits and pieces of vocal and other assorted instruments are kindly added by some friends and some people who were just standing nearby and voila 'Bowling Over The Bovine' is forced down the birth canal of creativity and delivered into the world just in time for the Great Dorset Steam Fair 2001. And what a set of gigs that was!
